TfL steps up campaign against attacks on staff

Transport for London is ensuring that all its trains are fitted with CCTV cameras, to help reduce almost 3,000 cases of hate crime attacks a year on its frontline staff. Its stations are already fully equipped.

TfL has also introduced a new series of safety measures, including posters, education in schools, and improvised bus driver training. Transport workers have been told they are entitled to report any incident knowing that it will be taken seriously and investigated. 

The action coincides with the stabbing of a Southeastern ticket inspector at Bromley South station on Bank Holiday Monday (May 31), after which a 17-year-old was quickly apprehended. A colleague also had a tooth knocked out.
